The trip down the 4 lane highway took 3 to 3.5 hours in moderate traffic, not much more time than the 1st Class bus. ![]() That it was not an "express" bus was not much of an issue. The ride cost us $9 and was in a bus not unlike typical Greyhound. On the way back to Panama a couple of weeks later we dropped our Thrifty rental from David off at Santiago ($55 added charge) and caught a 2nd Class bus to Albrook terminal from the Santiago terminal. better than coffee to wake you up as the bus started rolling before we were off. We had about 2 minutes and were unsure if his wave was to us or for another. It worked out really well, though it is a good idea to make sure that the steward gives you clear advanced notice that your stop is coming up. We got off our mid-night bus at dawn 45 minute shy of David and caught a taxi down to Boca Chica. They do stop intermittently to let passengers off at pre-designated locations. They leave at 11 PM or mid-night and take 6 to 7 hours with a stop at Santiago for stretching a basic refreshments. There are a couple of lines providing this service using modern, very comfortable and well equipped double decker buses. Instead we opted for an overnight first class express bus. We arrived on an evening flight into PTY and had no options of flying to David that day in late November. ![]()
